“Ana is the pet name for anorexia. The term was established by a pro-anorexia movement in the U.S.A. The naming ana symbolises the belittlement or even ignorance of this psychosomatic illness. The photographs of anorexic women were taken in two psychosomatic clinics in Germany. I tended to illustrate the “living reality” of these women, their emotional world and their shifted perception of realness.” – Sybille Fendt.
